Opening Day starters for the Bay Area teams?

There are just six teams in the major leagues that haven't decided on their Opening Day starter. Two of whom are the Athletics and the Giants. Below are candidates to consider:

Oakland Athletics

1.) Jesus Luzardo - This will be his second season making the club out of Spring Training. He's been labeled as a future 'big game pitcher', and Opening Day would be a great opportunity to bestow that honor upon him. A nod as the Opening Day starter will show the organization's faith in him going forward, and give him the chance to get over the psychological edge the Astros have held against him during his early career.

2020 Stats:

3-2 W/L

4.12 ERA

59.0 IP

1.271 WHIP

2.) Frankie Montas - Montas has proven to be one of the best pitchers in the first halves of the past two seasons. The Astros projected lineup on Opening Day could feature as many as six right-handed hitters of the nine total. His splits indicate how much more effective he is against right-handed hitters as opposed to left-handed hitters. Pitchers typically dominate early in the season as hitters are still getting their balance and timing at the plate. Montas' arsenal combined with his 99+ MPH fastball could give the Astros fits on Opening Day.

2020 Stats:

3-5 W/L

5.60 ERA

53.0 IP

1.509 WHIP

3.) Chris Bassitt - If the A's want to reward the best pitcher from last year, then Bassitt would be their selection. He finished top 10 in ERA among all qualified starting pitchers. Bassitt may not have the repertoire of the guys listed above, but is just as deceptive. His deception could play a large role in disrupting the Astros' timing and balance. It would be nice to see a guy that was once demoted to the bullpen have the opportunity to start this specific game.

2020 Stats:

5-2 W/L

2.29 ERA

63.0 IP

1.159 WHIP

San Francisco Giants

1.) Kevin Gausman - Gausman is coming off the best season of his career. His confidence is at an all-time high and would be a huge boost to a team looking to take another step forward. Gausman is a sinker ball pitcher and would be a good option against a Mariners team known for hitting home runs.

2020 Stats:

3-3 W/L

3.62 ERA

59.2 IP

1.106 WHIP

2.) Logan Webb - Webb would be a wild card option to start on Opening Day. He's shown glimpses of being a really good starter in the league. The reason Webb should be considered to start on Opening Day is due in large part to his great spring training. He has pitched 11.0 innings giving up 3 hits and allowing zero earned runs. Not only should he be a candidate for Opening Day, but could be one of the most improved players on the Giants roster this season.

2020 Stats:

3-4 W/L

5.47 ERA

54.1 IP

1.564 WHIP

3.) Johnny Cueto - Cueto has been limited the past few seasons due to injuries. His career is beginning to wind down, but he's looked healthy this spring. This could be his final season in San Francisco and what a way to reward him by letting him pitch Opening Day. The Mariners are a young, free swinging team which would be a great matchup for the veteran pitcher. It also helps that his personal catcher in Buster Posey is back this year.

2020 Stats:

2-3 W/L

5.40 ERA

63.1 IP

1.374 WHIP
